FAQs: Massage Therapy

These are some of the questions that I often get, and I wanted to create a page to answer them. If you have a question that is not listed, please don't hesitate to reach out to me!

What do I wear (or not wear) for a session?

This is probably the most asked question, and my answer is always "undress to a level that you are most comfortable with"... That being said, it really depends on the type of massage we are doing, the areas of your body that need the most attention, and location of the session. Some of my clients are comfortable naked, while others leave on underwear. When doing bodywork at the gym most of my clients leave on shorts as it is a less private setting. I consider it a privilege to put my hands on clients and will always defer to your comfort level.

Do I have to be an "athlete" to schedule?

Absolutely not! I have a wide range of clients I work with from 90 years old to 9 years old. Many of my clients found me after being frustrated by the lack of progress with general massage therapy. I treat injuries, chronic pain, post-surgical issues and restorative function.

Does sports massage hurt?

Sports massage can involve deeper pressure and more intense techniques, which may cause some discomfort. However, it should never be unbearable or painful. Communication with your massage therapist is key to ensure the right pressure is applied. There are different approaches to the same problem that may be more appropriate if one causes pain.

How is it different from regular massage?

Sports massage differs from regular massage in its targeted approach, intensity, and manipulation. It incorporates techniques specific to sports-related issues, such as muscle imbalances, tightness, and injury prevention. We spend as much time as we need on a specific issue to try to improve pain and or function.
